FAQ

What percentage of the box office goes to marketing budgets?

Marketing budgets typically account for between 20% and 40% of a film’s budget. Because marketing is vital to any film's success,

Without good marketing, no one knows about your film. No one will pay for your film if they don't know about it.

Why is Hollywood calling this Hollywood?

The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named after its location in Los Angeles, which at the time was known as "Hollywood."

Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. People came from all parts of the country to see what was going on there.

Hollywood is still a big part of our culture. Movies, television shows and music videos are all part of our culture. We call them all "Hollywood."

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Indie filmmakers tend to assume that distributors will buy their films.

They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.

But this is rare. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.

After all, they don't want to lose out on those profits.

Is Hollywood bigger than Bollywood?

Producing a movie that is well-received by the public is the biggest challenge for film producers.

Problem is, there are many movies competing to people's attention and money. If you don't stand out, your chances of being seen are slim.

But what is the secret to making a movie successful. What makes an actor famous or a director? Or a director? It's not just talent - it's also luck. Even if you have the most talented actors in the world they won't be able to make it work if they write bad scripts.

When it comes to movies, there are two main types. There are big-budget blockbusters as well as small independent productions. Production and distribution of blockbuster movies costs hundreds of millions. They are made by huge studios, who want to make sure their movies reach as many people possible. But big-budget films appeal more to older audiences.

Independent films, which are typically smaller-scale productions, can be financed either by individual investors or groups. These films are often targeted at niche markets and appeal to particular tastes. These films are usually easier to market and produce. This doesn't necessarily mean they are cheaper to watch. Many indie films are hard to find.

Is it possible to have both types of films? Is it necessary to have both blockbuster and independent movies? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood produces more movies than India every year.

How many films does Hollywood make in a given year?

Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. That's right, 3000!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions to produce them. They also spend millions marketing them. How many end up being released in theaters?

The answer is most likely between 200 and 300. What happens to the 2,700+ additional films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

But not all of them are destined to go unseen. Some of them have been selected for distribution via Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, iTunes, Google Play, etc.

Hence why don't more of these films be released? They are not being released in theaters. Because they're too expensive to produce.

If they were more affordable to produce they would be released into theaters.

That's where my expertise comes in. I will help you find the best possible way to release your film in theaters.

You'll learn how to maximize your return and increase the chances of your movie being shown in theaters.

Let's face it, we all know...

It can be very difficult to get your film in theaters. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.

You may end up spending a lot of money before you get started.

You have a very short window in which to distribute your film.

There's not enough time between the moment a film is completed and its theatrical debut.

Do I have the right to start my own distribution firm?

No. Without being a distributor, you cannot legally establish a distribution company.

You don't have to distribute films from other people, but you must still follow certain rules.

You cannot charge different prices to different theaters. Additionally, fees cannot be charged to different customers.

It is also against the law to sell your services or products to other companies.

How much does Hollywood make per year?

Production costs on average for a movie are around $100 million. If you produced ten movies per year for a decade you would have enough money to purchase a small country.

You could own an island with an airfield, power plant and bank.

If that doesn’t sound like fun, you must be insane.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove your name from this list.

How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It's meant to be a tribute to those who have contributed to film history.

What happened to all the stars stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
