Terrazzo is terrazzo with stars

In the early 1960s, Hollywood and Vine were the hub of a fledgling movie industry, and the Walk of Fame commemorated its pioneers. Stanley Kramer created the first star that was placed on the sidewalk. The original 1,529 stars were set in the sidewalk with a salmon-colored star made of terrazzo and surrounded by a dark background. Today, the walk has more than two hundred stars, representing 2,200 organizations or individuals.

Hollywood Boulevard is home to stars

The Hollywood Walk of Fame contains 2000 pink terrazzo starlets. The Walk of Fame extends along Hollywood Boulevard from Vine Street to Sunset Blvd. Some stars are dedicated to specific groups or individuals. For example, Basil Rathbone was given three stars, despite the fact that he never played a live stage performance, as a nod to his significant contribution to the television industry. Three other celebrities were also recognized for their contributions in the entertainment industry.

The Walk of Fame is open to all visitors for no cost

The Walk of Fame in Hollywood is an historic landmark composed of 2,700 brass and terrazzo stars. The Walk of Fame runs 15 blocks along Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks on Vine Street. You can visit it for free, but you have many other things to do. The Walk of Fame recognizes many notable people, such as actors and singers, who made a name for their self in the entertainment sector. Stars represent a wide range of accomplishments such as acting, scuba diving, and movie-making.

Some celebrities do not have a star

While every celebrity on the planet has a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame list, not all do. Prince, the man behind "Purple Rain," turned down an opportunity to have his own star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990. His reason for declining the offer? His album's title, 1999. The Hollywood Walk of Fame committee receives hundreds of nominations each year, but only thirty are chosen for a ceremony.

FAQ

What are the salaries of actors?

For independent films, the average salary for an actor is less than $100,000. The average actor receives between $10,000 and $20,000 for a film. Many actors get no pay. It depends on the actor's success. There are actors who make millions and others who struggle to find work.

Can I start my own distribution company?

No. You cannot legally operate a distribution company without being a distributor.

You must follow certain rules, even though you are not distributing films of other people.

You can't, for example, charge different prices to different theaters. You cannot also charge different fees to customers.

It is also against the law to sell your services or products to other companies.

What is the difference in an indie film and one made in a foreign language?

A single filmmaker usually makes an independent film. He or she makes all the decisions.

A foreign language film, on the other hand is usually produced by a larger production crew.

They often hire actors, authors, and directors who are from other countries.

To ensure the dialogue sounds natural, professional translators are also hired.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF, located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.

To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?

You must be at the least 18 year old to be nominated. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
