FAQ

How much does it set you back to distribute a feature length film?

A distribution deal typically costs between $100,000 and $150,000.

Theaters cost an average of $10,000.

Screens cost on average around $5,000

If you have 100 screens, your distribution fee will be about $500,000.

Distributor fees of $50,000 would apply if there are ten screens.

How many movies does Hollywood make a year?

Each year, Hollywood studios produce approximately 3,000 films. It's true, there are three thousand!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions producing them. They spend millions to promote them. How many of these movies do you think end up in theaters?

The answer is most likely between 200 and 300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

We should see more of them. Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? Because they're too expensive to produce.

And if they were cheaper to produce, they'd be released into theaters.

That's where my expertise comes in. I can help guide you in the best way possible to put your movie in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Let's face facts...

It can be difficult to get your movie into theaters. The process is complex, lengthy and involves many legalities.

You may end up spending a lot of money before you get started.

To make matters worse, the window of time during which you can distribute your film is extremely limited.

There is simply not enough time between the end of a film and when it goes on its theatrical run.

How much does Hollywood make per year?

The average movie costs around $100 million to produce. So if you made ten movies a year for a decade, you'd have enough money to buy a small country.

Your island would be yours, complete with an airport, power plant, bank, post office, police force, fire department, school system, hospital, sports stadium, theater, and cinema.

If you don't find this to be fun, then you are probably insane.

Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding websites like Indiegogo or Kickstarter?

Crowdfunding platforms are fantastic because they allow you direct contact with potential investors.

Many filmmakers aren't qualified to ask money. They believe they need another person to verify their claims.

Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.

Instead, they spend long hours working on their project, in hopes of someone noticing.

Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.

Instead of thousands of dollar, they get a handful of donations.

What made Hollywood famous?

The answer was simple. It was because they were willing and able to take risks. They were able to make films that would be remembered for many years.

They were also willing to try out new ideas.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.

Once an artist has received their star, he/she is eligible to be listed in the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.

You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Your family members can nominate you for a star. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
