How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. The person who accepts the nomination will receive a second confirmation letter. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
