FAQ

How many theaters will I need to return my investment?

It all depends on how long your theatrical release will be running.

You will only need one theater to show your film if you plan to run it for less that two weeks.

Two theaters are required if your film will be shown for more than two weeks.

Why don’t more filmmakers use crowdfunding platforms like Indiegogo, Kickstarter, and others?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

But most filmmakers don't think they're qualified to ask for money. They feel they need someone else who can vouch for them.

Since they haven’t proved themselves yet, they don’t think anyone should make an investment in them.

Instead, they spend months focusing on their project and hoping that someone will notice.

Then, when they launch the campaign, they realize how poorly prepared they were.

Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.

What happens when my film doesn't perform well at the box office?

If your film does not do well at the box office, there are many things that could happen.

First, you might decide to change how you market your film.

The script might be rewritten.

You might also consider adding new characters.

Fourth, it is possible to decide to eliminate certain characters.

Fifth, you might choose to cut scenes.

Sixth, you might decide that the film wasn't worth making.

Do foreign sales make Hollywood more than domestic sales?

Yes, but it is only slightly. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. Domestic revenues made up 83%.

Over half of the world’s population is found in overseas markets.

This means many people who might never watch a movie at home will still want to see yours.

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Many indie filmmakers believe that distributors will take their films.

Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.

But this is rare. Distributors often profit from independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.

Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

Who is Hollywood's most famous actor?

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

You can apply for a star if a current member of the HWOF nominated you or if you made significant contributions to movies, television, radio, theatre, music, or something else considered part of "popular culture." The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The other half goes to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.

How old must one be to get a HWOF star

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no known living relatives, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place the memorial marker in front of it.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to all the stars stolen? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs between 250 and 300 lbs. This makes it approximately 4 tons!
